I haven’t posted here for a while, but I’ve been noticing things I’m thankful for:

Jeremy’s new job

206

God is providing, little by little, for the trip to Thailand in May

205

Chris fearing his wrist was broken and finding out it was not

204

Having Sarah home for the weekend — after having all three kids so far away to four different colleges, it’s so nice to have her close enough now to return home for a weekend!

203

Having fun working on a musical production with teens

202

Lessening pain in some parts of my body & life

201

Another excellent Bible Study by Beth Moore, which has brought me flat on my face before Him every morning — a true learning experience in itself

Although the earthquake in Haiti is a devastating event, and the country will be rebuilding for years to come, there are some positive things for which we can be thankful.  For one, our prayer is not for a restored Haiti (to return to what it was before the earthquake), but for a new Haiti (better than it has been in these last 200 years).  I think this is possible in God’s hands, although it may be a long time coming.  Jerusalem was 49 years in rebuilding after its destruction (Daniel 9:25), but God was Present and working the whole time.

189

We do not need to despair over tragedies such as we’ve seen in Haiti, for God is still on the throne, and He brings good and beautiful things even out of sadness.  Haitian people have been worshipping in the streets, and sharing what little they have with one another.  The world is finally responding to Haiti’s needs, too.

188

Prayer is a very real, effective and vital ministry of the church.  Still, we are not “in control” — and for that I am thankful.  God is in control and this world is not the end of our existence.

187

A Haitian Christian lawyer/friend of Wess Stafford’s was pulled out alive from the rubble of his office.

186

God has been giving me so many special scriptures throughout the week, related to Haiti.  We can have complete peace and assurance in times like this!

“Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.  We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”  –1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (NIV)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.   — James 1:2-3 (NIV)

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  –Romans 8:37

Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.  — Philippinas 1:12 (NIV)

When He has brought out all His own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.  — John 10:4

Be still, and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.  The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. — Psalm 46:10

But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.  O Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.  — Psalm 131:2-3

185

Believers & children who have died in the earthquake are home with the Lord!  I saw children being pulled out of the rubble — either by relief workers or by angels, bearing them gently away to Heavenly places.  This is not just a image in my mind; it’s true!

184

Compassion staff members from the Dominican Republic have been helping powerfully with relief efforts.  I’m thankful for my friend, Cris, who works for Complimentary Interventions such as this in the DR.

183

Ephraim, my Haitian friend, and employee for Compassion, is safe!

182

Dan Woolley, whom I’ve worked with a bit in the past, was rescued safely from the rubble!

181

All 74 of the Compassion Haiti country office staff are accounted for and safe!  This is nothing short of miraculous!  I believe these and many of the sponsored children and Leadership Development students will step up to lead and direct Haiti, under God’s direction, into a much brighter future.
